At least 15 killed in Rishon Lezion billiard club terror attack

Rescue crews are still unable to reach an unknown number of people trapped in the ruins of the structure
By The Jerusalem Post Internet Staff

An explosion in a Rishon Lezion event hall at 11:03 p.m. has caused dozens of casualties and the collapse of three floors of the structure.

Reports indicate the entire building in the city's new industrial area - at 17 Lishinsky Street - has collapsed as a result of the blast.

Dozens of Magen David Adom emergency medical ambulances, medics, and firefighters are already on the scene and are reporting at least 40 casualties.

Unconfirmed reports indicate at least 15 people were killed in the blast.

Casualties are being evacuated to a number of regional hospitals.

A number of hospitals have already set up emergency telephone hotlines for those seeking information on casualties admitted in the wake of the attack.

Sheba Hospital, Tel Hashomer - 1255131

Ichilov Hospital, Tel Aviv - 1255135

Wolfson Hospital, Holon - 1255135
Overseas callers must dial 972 prior to the above numbers.

Additional people are reportedly trapped in the ruins of the collapsed structure but authorities say it remains too dangerous at this time to rescue them from the rubble.

Security forces have arrived on the scene and the IDF's Home Front Command disaster rescue unit is also on its way to assist in digging out casualties.

An eyewitness reported seeing large sections of the building flying through the air.

Police believe the suspected Palestinian suicide bomber made his way to the city of Rishon Lezion, located south of Tel Aviv, from the Gaza Strip.

The Jerusalem Post Internet Staff will bring you further details on this breaking story as they become available.
