Not sure of the current situation, but for a long time, the HWP laptops were also outsourced to Compal. I once put an HP laptop (4150???) right next to a comparable Dell model and they were all but identical. Had they not chosen to use slightly different connectors for their batteries and hot-swappable drive bays, you could have swapped parts...

No problem with the current Dell notebook (Lattitude C610) which is on roughly 24 hours a day. Then again, there was never trouble with the HP model either.

Have three Dell desktops running as well. Also running fine. The oldest of them suffered a disk failure a year or so ago, but by that point it had been turned on for more than two years, so hardly unexpected. (They did replace it under warranty, though I personally chose to upgrade all the storage on the machine at that time.)
