The more I play hide-and-seek with my file, the more I’m convinced I’ve uncovered a flaw in Windows Find. The file Find cannot locate is one of several documents created and edited at the same time. Find locates all others. The text I search for appears several times in the file. I’ve clicked, checked, typed, and cussed! Nothing seems to work.

I plan on updating my own text finder to search Word documents. As you probably already know, Word stores a string with Zeros between each character. Example: “Computer” would be “C0o0m0p0u0t0e0r0” and since C uses a Zero to terminate strings, I’d need to write my own comparison routines. I don’t want to invest the time right now, especially since I now know where the files Find can’t see are located.

Thank-you for the suggestions. I’ve already tried all of them.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Perhaps I’ll try smacking my computer on the left side. I’m right-handed and only whacking the right side, until now. Maybe correcting this obvious oversight will help.

P.P.S. Left-handed hitting doesn’t work. However, it does knock over my cup with the pencils in it when I’m not careful.
