I don't really think you can use Holland as a textbook example, with a total population of around 16 million. We face different problems.

I do happen to agree that we cannot keep jailing everyone that has 50 bucks worth of crack on them. As far as I am concerned, jail the sellers immediately, but give an addict a chance to clean themselves up. But, then I also would make DWI of drugs OR alcohol a felony, and if you kill someone DWI, murder in the 1st.

My parents thought as yours did, but I do not fault them for me doing any drinking. I take responsibility for my own actions. I knew a family where the parents were just the opposite, they did educate their children on alcohol, by letting them drink in their home at a young age. I do not know where they are now, but I do know that one of the boys almost killed his dad in a fistfight, and the other was in prison the last I heard. Point being, everyone is different, and no one thing works perfectly for everyone.

I think most kids now know more about these drugs than we ever knew. But, the excess is what gets the front page news, and people seem to thrive on excess. (did you happen to catch '48 Hours' piece on the Mexican party boats?...good example). so how do you educate them? I think it, as most things do, starts at home. And , of course I would be remiss if I did not say that I believe the home best serves it's kids by approaching the Good Throne of Grace and God to ask for guidance and wisdom in this effort of teaching.
