Do you know if alcohol ever went through the FDA approval process?

I personally would rather not gut the FDA just because someone wants to take some dope recreationally.

I would rather gut the FDA, or at least reduce its scope. I have no desire to take some dope, but if I did I don't think that having or taking gives the government a good reason to come crashing in to my house with a swat team and then lock me up for a decade or so, of course that is more of a matter for the DEA then the FDA. Also I would like to see other non-narcotic related areas of the FDA cut back.

Does anyone really think that "illegal" drugs would become any cheaper, after each "manufacturer" and each "drug" underwent the FDA's approval process (taking the profit out of drugs...lol)?

I think that they probably would be cheaper, but my opinion on this isn't based on the price of the drugs. If they go to .1 or to 10x the price I would still feel the same about this.
