On the surface, it looks like Cisco's (CSCO:Nasdaq) revenues were flat sequentially for the third quarter. But according to a Sanford Bernstein analyst, a review of deferred revenues "reveals gross sales generated in the quarter were down 6% sequentially."

The analyst adds: "While the company matched sales expectations and exceeded EPS consensus, we are not convinced that next quarter will mark the turnaround for IT spending."
