I don't agree.

In a criminal trial, the victim can get restitution for out-of-pocket expenses such as medical, but there's no provision for pain and suffering, future earnings loss, any of that. The focus of a criminal trial is on the alleged perpetrator and what you do TO them.

In the civil trial, the focus is on the alleged victim and what you do FOR them.

Totally different purposes.

I agree that in the OJ trial, the civil suit was mainly used to destroy his image as an innocent man. But even if he had been found guilty, there would have been no damages ordered for the harm he did to Nicole or her family. The civil trial was necessary for that.
