It's interesting to note that Intel can match AMD's fastest frequency with a Celeron processor

Its a variant of a P4, they could make them faster if they wanted. Its not like the old Celeron scaled to this speed.

It's interesting to note that Intel can match AMD's fastest frequency with a Celeron processor, now. Sure, the performance will be radically different, but I wonder if the "value" market can even tell the difference (or if they would even care). As Jim will remind everyone, "megahertz sells".

The Athlon owners will be able to race through their word processors and spread sheets about 10% faster than the P4 Celeron owners, and for those who can type at a rate of 1000 characters per second there will be a slight difference. Otherwise they are indistinguishable. MHz sells.
