General Electric Co (GE) (32.85 +2.20)

GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. said it is on track to meet previously outlined earnings targets for the year. GE also said it is comfortable with Wall Street analysts' profit forecasts for a double-digit increase in 2003 earnings, as well. Chief Executive Jeff Immelt said he is confident the company's 2002 earnings, excluding the effects of accounting changes, will top $16.5 billion, or between $1.65 to $1.67 per share -- an estimate it has stood by repeatedly since January. Wall Street analysts currently are looking for 2002 earnings of between $1.63 and $1.66 per share, with a mean estimate of $1.65, compared with $1.41 per share in 2001, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.
