And I still am chuckling to myself. My hero is this guy mentioned in this article.commondreams.org I come to this land of Martin Luther King from the land of Gandhi. Ever proud to be "an American by choice". Growing up, I witnessed the power of peace and also went through the pain of the holocaust of hatred and war. The country I grew up in was one of the first nation that won independence from colonialism, It was won "by a naked fakir" It was one of the first non-aligned nation and told the US and the USSR to take it and shove it. It was also one of the early nations that recognized Israel much against the wishes of their Arab benefactors. That nation stood up to the Arabs and recognized Israel. Having themselves been a victim of colonial oppression, they could empathize with with Israel On the issue of terrorism, the terrorists, failed to strike at he very symbol of democracy in the strongest democracy of the world (the US Capitol). Having failed to do so, they went on to attack the symbol of democracy in the largest democratic country namely India. Their efforts were thwarted by the parliament security forces in Dec 2001. Subsequently, the Indian army stood ready to march into Pakistan with their nuclear arsenal. But they didn't. Why? They listened to our President. They knew that America's war was their war. They did what our President told them to do. And they restrained their army from marching into Pakistan after hey were reassured that the US , Pakistan and India were in it together. Am I proud to be associated with both those countries today. I am a non-Muslim and also proud of that fact after reading the news article with the following URL:timesofindia.indiatimes.com I want to remind my Jewish friends that after they have read that article, I am sure they must have heard similar stories from their forebears when Hitler's armies were chasing all the Jews. Indeed there were other Germans that sheltered the Jews. Had it not been for some of those good Germans, many more Jews would have become victims of Hitler's barbaric forces. And finally I am as passionate in defending the Muslim religion as I am in opposing any forms of terrorism and genocide. I sincerely hope that we Americans act in a responsible manner to strengthen the hands of our President for by doing so we will be reaffirming our faitrh in the value of every human life in Israel and Palestine.
