Exactly, this fortifies my view, if you are so scared that you need a weapon to defend yourself, a rifle is the weapon. It kills with deadly force and is much easier to aim. Besides, it would attract attention and get out into the open those who are walking around carrying a weapon. And likely any one with a hand gun would stay clear.
