HONG KONG (Reuters) - Hong Kong's benchmark index was up 1.58 percent in early trade on Thursday, tracking a vibrant Wall Street which saw the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index surge 7.78 percent to 1,696.29 -- its biggest gain in the more than a year.

Buying in Hong Kong was broad based but second line technology plays saw the biggest gains.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index was up 1.58 percent at 11,953.83 after two minutes' trade.

News that quarterly earnings from Cisco Systems Inc , the world's No. 1 maker of gear that directs Internet traffic, were more than triple those of a year ago injected life into U.S. stocks and also helped the blue-chip Dow Jones industrials jump 3.1 percent to 10,141.83.
