What makes you think trading 150 years of democracy and economic prosperity over that swath of land for 150 years of social and economic turmoil is progress for mankind? As your idea of letting Mexico keeping the land after 1850's war would certainly entail. Mexico is only recently beginning to enjoy true democracy; yet Mexicans are still making their preference amply clear by crossing the borders north-bound, both legally and illegally. Now you see why Might Makes Right works; your ivory tower idea of "mankind progress" makes no sense whatsoever in real life.

Economically and in terms of human and political rights, who do you think are better off: Mexicans living in Mexico or Mexicans living in the US?

If the answer is Mexico, why do so many people pour over the US southern border?
