If you are employed in the promoting or dealing of stocks in anyway then you are obliged to inform your broker, who will impose all sorts of fees and restrictions upon you. I was a consultant to Schwab for a while (working through my own firm - not even on Schwab payroll) and I went through lengthy interviews with their Compliance dept involving the signing of a fair amount of documentation. I wasn't even involved in the trading side. My task was to design the computer architecture for their European datacentres.
