TOKYO — Japan Mayday Service Co said Thursday it will begin emergency communications services using KDDI Corp's mobile phones equipped with global positioning system (GPS) functions.

With the nationwide "HELPNET Ketai" service due to begin June 7, subscribers can notify the operations center of their whereabouts around the clock should they be involved in accidents, natural disasters or other emergency situations, Japan Mayday Service said. (Kyodo News)
