I have experience in both sectors so am perhaps more qualified to speak on these matters than you are. I can tell you that the private sector is by and large a wasteland of mismanagement, inefficiency, and outright stupidity. The vast majority of them stumble along cutting a million corners to make up for useless ideas or uncompetitive initiatives. It is not necessary that they ultimately fall by the wayside. Many of them never do. But they deliver an ugly or fraudulent product and they move along to the next street. Many times the employees are drunk before the noon hour... The fact that public companies are evaluated by Congress and the OMB every year certainly keeps them on their toes, I guess...
