They've been doing stuff like that for a while. It isn't so much the clout of the retailer as it is the power of public opinion and outcry. Several rap albums were left off WalMart shelves years ago for a similar reason.
WalMart caters to its clientele very well. Most of their sales are from Mid American Value-type families. They won't do anything to rock that boat.

When I worked in the Pavilion group at HP, we used to routinely put together "special" PC packages for the big reatilers, especially Wal-Mart. They decided up front what they wanted in it and how much it needed to cost, then put it out to bid.

I am aware of several cases (not specifically involving PCs) where they prefered NOT to be in a business at all if they couldn't be in it on their own terms.
