great article scoot

i've got a lot of time for guujaaw
and his vision. i really do hope the
haida prevail.

i've heard stories about rich and
powerful people in boardrooms and at
cocktail parties poo-poohing the haida
and their claims, saying "we're going
to squash them". it's bone chilling.

it really is all about their connection
to the earth.

that's why we want to live there - for at
least 6 to 7 months a year. more than that,
and the weather would get us down.

it is basic and honest and either you
accept that and not try and change it or
your environment, or you leave. it is
not a community that allows you to be
judgemental. what is, is. and its beautiful.

when you come up, you'll understand.

one more thing scooter

In Old Masset, unemployment runs as high as 90 percent.

But putting food on the table is not a problem. People here still do it the way their ancestors did.

i have to say, that probably as many that are
unemployed in old masset are also collecting
welfare.

that helps put a lot more than food on the table.
it keeps the local watering establishment and liquor
store very busy.
