Don't get carried away, Lazarus. I am probably a stauncher advocate of private business and free market than you are. That is not what this was about. It was about making general and flippant statements about the productivity of employees.

People are people everywhere. People do not need to sit at the back of the bus because they were qualified or skilled enough to outcompete a thousand applicants for a public job...nor for a private job for that matter. I believe a number of public services millitate against initiative, independence, and such. But constructive criticism (public or private) seeks ways and means to improvement. It does not seek to be divisive and polarizing, for this does nothing but entrench whatever problems are already existing.

"Two out of how many barristers and solicitors in the UK? Not too impressive"

I did not say I knew only two. But if I sit and talk with people about mismanagement or incompetence, every single person who has had any experience in the workforce can supply their own examples.

But people are not robots. Personally, I like "inefficiency" sometimes. Sitting here yacking with you is about as unproductive as one can get. So I am not taking any holier than thou attitude!;-)
