That study never talked about the benefits of early weaning that many successful horse breeders practice. A foal will suck until the mare kicks it off which is sometimes as old as two years of age in the wild. Many race horse breeders wean foals at two months because they claim it creates a growth spurt and a stronger animal from the shock of removal of the mare. We should perhaps poll the mothers of some of the more clever SI members to get at the truth.
