However to the extent that I
assume anything about God (and I am not completely sure even of his existence)
it would only be that God is just and has created a logical universe.

Ah, but just and logical to whom? Keeping in mind that human concepts of justice and logic are far from consistent (many, perhaps most, Palenstinians believe it is just and logical to continue their suicide bombing. At various times and places in the history of the human race it has been just and logical to hold slaves, drop atomic bombs, circumsize women, make human sacrifice, and on and on.

Do you really think our society today has achieved a perfect level of understanding what is just and logical?

If so, why does what is just and logical differ so much from country to country and society to society?

I believe that God has created a world that is just and logical judged by God's standards of what is just and logical. But I do not even pretend to understand what God finds just and logical. To do so puts me in judgment over God, which is a place I am not interested in being.
