Of course the children would be right.

The problem is, that in both cases the children, from their perspective, see the parent as cruel and sadistic.

In one case, they're right. In the other they're wrong.

The children lack the abilty to judge whether the parent's actions are good or evil.

IMO, that's where we are wrt God. I am simply incapable of determining whether God is kind or cruel.

Might God be cruel? Of course. As Lear said (I quote from memory, maybe slightly off): As flies to little boys are we to the Gods, they kill us for their sport.

He could be right.

We have NO way of knowing!

That's the role of faith. If we could know, we would have no need for faith.
