Acadia National Park is a pure natural beauty. It can get kinda thick with tourists in the middle summer but its a great place to visit at anytime. Bar Harbor is a quaint little touristy town in the midst of it all. The coastline of Maine is blessed with villages and towns the entire length, ranging anywhere from the poor to the very rich. The locals are generally very friendly having got used to the influx of people in the summertime long ago, and much of the economy in the summer is based on catering to this industry. There are many places to stop on the coastal route heading up, but I highly recommend Youngs lobster pound in Belfast. Picnic tables overlooking the bay and your favorite sized lobster served with steamers. Restaurant 'lobster' is nothing like what you'll get there. MMMMmmmmmm good.
