>>"What happens to all that high-priced spectrum?"

IMHO the European governments auctioned 3G spectrum even though there was no 3G hardware on the horizon .. and manufacturers promised 3G hardware, performance, and timelines that they couldn't deliver.

If I were a European carrier, I would be so hopping mad that I would be presenting monthly interest cost "sharing" invoices to my government, Nokia, Ericsson, Siemens, etal.

I might even try to sue my government for a reduction in auction prices. After all, the PV at the time of the auction has certainly been reduced due to circumstances beyond the carrier's control. The government picked the premature auction date. What was the carrier supposed to do? Not bid, and be frozen out of the spectrum?

I know none of this would be successful, and most likely has no legal standing. But I wouldn't hold back just because I would making my company appear foolish and irrational. Maybe I could at least make enough of a splash in the media so that the public would realize how others have placed my company at financial peril.

I rarely rant .. but I hate seeing the Euro carriers (and others) getting screwed!
