I saw a little of the "tough as nails" stuff but thought a woman at Harvard, going for tenure, yada, yada, yada. remember, this was back a while ago, not today. she, and a number of others (including tg), felt that the reason she was denied tenure in the Harvard sociology department had nothing to do with the work and everything to do with sexism--that a bunch of traditionalist old boys had no desire to bring into their midst permanently a tough, independent-minded, and often abrasive woman.
