However, the lack of access to direct feedback on the impact of resource consumption may turn out to be a weakness

Substitute "is" for the phrase "may turn out to be" and your statement makes a lot of sense. No need to be wishy washy when you've nailed it.

The question is what will we do about it once that fact is integrated into our daily thinking?

Excellent post.

Paul, true enough. But where we go from here is the big and interesting question. The Ecowackoes are fighting the 19th century Malthusian wars, like Polish soldiers trying a re-run of WWI against German Panzers. They are two centuries too late.

We've had the big population boom and here comes the bust. We aren't going to have to kill anyone. There is going to be a huge decline in human numbers because women have control of having babies and they have to choose to have them and they are choosing no.

That's just the beginning. Right now, there are 3 human clones in the production process - I am hoping they are triplets, born to different mothers at different times. They are natural clones [meaning just a re-run of somebody's DNA rather than genetically engineered]. The worry about their health is silly because other than the normal problems of babies [many of whom naturally die before birth or have various DNA defects expressed], these ones will be in good nick.

That's because the cloner will have selected somebody without apparent genetic problems [such as cystic fibrosis and stuff] and probably quite a young cell too. That's my guess anyway. I bet the mothers are on vitamin supplements so the babies get a good start, without spina bifida, iodine, iron and other nutrient deficiencies.

Soon, we can move onto full scale genetic engineering and women will be able to tick off the menu of gene options. I bet they don't tick "Aggressive thug". I bet they tick "High IQ". Message 17449615

Cloning is good! Fewer people by choice is fine too. Hooray for genetic engineering. I don't like mass murder or viruses killing billions.

Will the USA stand in the way of progress? The religious wackoes who have such a strong grip on the USA seem likely to carry the day.
