Shaheed Khalil As-Soori

martyred July 2000 during a reconnaissance mission

" Born into a Nusairi family, accepted Islam, turned out by his family and
earned the honour of martyrdom. "

Excerpt from Diary of a Foreign Mujahid:

Finally, but far from least, there is Khalil As-Soori from Hatay in Turkey.
Of the three shuhadaa he was my closest friend and hence the one I know most
about. He was also perhaps the loneliest in terms of personal family which
is
why the Muslims should know the passing of a very fine Muslim and Mujahid
insha-Allah. He was shaheed aged only 23 and yet was blessed with an
eventful
and insha-Allah, fruitful life.

Born into a Nusairi family, in the face of great difficulties Alhamdullilah
Allah guided him to Islam and brought him to the Chechen Jihad for
martyrdom.

He entered Islam whilst ironically serving as a conscript in the Turkish
Army- a bastion of Kuffar. For Khalil, entering Islam brought many
difficulties from his people whom he knew would never accept him. Despite
this he tried to advise his family and fiancé gently through letters and
during his visits home. They in turn tried their best to make him return to
their deviant beliefs. In this they tried to intimidate him using every
emotional, physical and cultural threat that they could muster.
Alhamdullilah
he held fast to the sunnah and refused to give in to the great pressure that
his family and community were exerting on him. It soon became clear to them
that he would not be dissuaded and they proceeded to do what they had
threatened.

His fiancé, whom he was very fond of, broke off their engagement. His father
turned him out of his home and told him that he would not be allowed back
until he returned to the ways of his forefathers. Khalil was not dissuaded
from this and left his home town of Antakiya and went to Istanbul. An
expensive city, he had to work many long hours as a waiter to support
himself. In his spare time he strove to learn about true Islam through study
circles.

So this was the life of Khalil until the outbreak of the Chechen Jihad about
a year ago. He knew little of the country and even less about the Mujahideen
here; however he was fully aware of the importance of Jihad in Islam and his
obligation to defend the honour and property of the Muslims in Chechnya.
Again obstacles appeared in his path. The teacher of his study circle did
not
agree with his wish to participate in Jihad and advised him to stay and
continue to learn about Islam.

Again Khalil was not to be dissuaded, even when the teacher threatened to
expel him from the circle- a nonsensical threat which reveals much about the
teacher. Again for the second time Khalil placed his belief in Allah above
the demands of the world and walked away from the group of people whom he
had
come to know and who had taught him much of what he knew about Islam.

Upon arriving in Chechnya he joined Field Commander Abul-Waleed's battalion,
which at that time was stationed in Grozny. However he soon moved to Abu
Jihad Al-Afghani's group which at the time was in the brunt of the fighting
so he could be nearer the front line. He fought there throughout the siege
of
Grozny and bore the hardships of the withdrawal from Grozny and then the
subsequent escape from Shatoi with complete equanimity.

He participated in many operations and was always keen to be where the
fighting was. Despite the difficulties of the Mujahideen he was determined
to
stay and fight until the last Russian had left Chechen soil.

As a person he had a very pleasant and friendly personality. Even during the
hardest times he was in always in an upbeat mood and confident in Allah's
help. Amongst the Mujahideen he helped others whenever and as much as he
could and otherwise would be found reciting the Quran. In a land where life
is fraught with hardship and danger he was amongst the most resilient and
courageous.

Khalil was shaheed several days ago deep in the Caucasus mountains during a

dangerous reconnaissance mission.

May Allah accept his shahaadah as He knows best Khalil's sincerity and the
sacrifices Khalil made for the Sake of Allah.
