ive got 4 dell 1702fp 17 inch flat panels. i think they are a good value. Last time i looked on ebay they were $599 new and $799 at dell. I bought mine on ebay $599 + $35 ship.

You might look at the new Samsung 171p model. PC mag was drooling over it last month.

I do not think the quality is there unless you are willing to spend over $1000. Good CRTs are very inexpensive.
