Eric - the base technology has not changed much. There is some innovative work with SANs which could affect the way file systems are laid out and managed, but none are mainstream. There has been a lot of interesting reesearch in the last few years, and some of that work is getting into products now. I expect that the next year or so will produce some neat stuff if the R&D budgets survive...
