Any politico or foreign service officer involved in policy formation who has not had significant exposure if not deep immersion in a foreign culture has no business being in the job. I think that leaves out Bush. IMO there are three important things to be learned from serious exposure to almost anywhere else: How much more we have than almost anyone. How much more we use of nearly everything than anyone else. How much more we waste than anyone else.
