ok, so here is the story. We were up at Mrs. McKie's Grandma's house. We had finished dinner and everyone was sitting around talking or playing (poker). Somebody smelled smoke, so we started looking all around the house and up in the attic. Nothing. But the smoke was getting stronger. So, Mrs. McKie's Aunt called the fire dept. They showed up with four engines and at least a dozen guys. They could smell the smoke, they could see the smoke, but they couldn't find any fire. They had an infrared scanner and still didn't find anything. Finally, they came up with the idea that the smoke was from somebody's fireplace and the air cooling was causing the smoke to pool at that location. So they left.

But, I didn't buy the story. So I went to where the smoke was strongest, moved around a bit to where there was no smoke. Basically, I triangulated on a spot in the flower bed where another family member had put a cigarette out in 5 inches of dried vegetable matter instead of in dirt. There was a smoldering area about 12" in diameter right next to the house. And it was muy caliente. So, we watered down the area and all was well. No flames, but it was good that I caught it.

and, I won $5.00 playing dime poker.
