Gemstar typically announces quarterly earnings the day before SEC filings are due.

If they settle before the earnings release, then they have to disclose the settlement which 'probably' means reduced payments for past dues. And they will have to state that they will be writing DOWN the revenue they have been reporting for the past 3 years.

Of course it will be reported as a one time charge !!
