If it works out as you predict, it would be in the Palestinians' interest.

But every time in the last seventy years that the Palestinians have come to a crossroads marked, "rational self-interest, this way", and "ruinous maximalism that doesn't involve a 'humiliating' compromise" (where accepting less than 100% of Palestine = the humiliation), they have chosen the ruinous maximalism every time. Except once, in 1993, when Arafat was broke and friendless, and had little to lose. But they soon reverted to form.

Can't say I'm too hopeful of a rational choice now. The Palestinian/Arab strategy of whipping up irrational hatred of Jews and Israel is working great (as TF says, "global village idiocy") and makes rational choices almost impossible.
