Not that it matters, but for the record Beirut was under Reagan, and the Republicans (i.e. Bob Dole) were the ones screaming to run from Somalia.

I had another though about Somalia over dinner. How is it that President Bush (after 12 years in the White House and (6)? years as director of the CIA, did not know that Bin Laden had a large terrorist organization in Somalia?

This is a particularly bad lapse in judgement, given that the he had worked closely with Bin Laden during the 1980's, and Bin Laden had already blown up 300 marines in Lebanon.
