mindmeld, I am gonna blow your poll and opt out ... I am in this age group :-))

51-60 yrs ~ 5%

wonder why? Well it is a scam and I figure my children and grandchildren would be better off if we get rid of it. Ever notice none of our fine govt employees are in it? Why? Isn't good enough for them. Can't believe we got to a point where we allowed elected and appointed people to vote their own pay raises and retirement programs and benefit programs.

End Social Security and the result years down the road will be an overwhelmed remaining Welfare program.

I wish everyone could and would save for retirement. Fact is a very LARGE part of the population won't, can't, or will but it just won't be enough.

Go spend one day at an old folks home. Look around. See if your first grade teacher is living there destitute and penniless. See all the people who once held important similar jobs in the community. Were they all just too stupid to save? Are they to blame because one month of nursing home care equals 2 years of their mean working year salary?

Look I hate paying social security now. But the alternative is worse. Who would care for these people in today's dollars? Provided for by tax on today's salaries. Who will pay for our care in tomorrow's dollars? Assuming we will end up just like the last generation. Savings and income and social security far trailing cost of care.

SS is broke. It could use some fixing. But consider the alternatives could be worse.

One of the biggest scams, for example, is people who imigrate here, pay in for 5 years, and then draw for the next 20. End that.

>>Another idea is to get moving on privatization.

Yeah, considering that everything the public sector handles is a bureaucratic mess!
