Boy is that a total lie.

The first spread sheet was a program called visicalc, which I think first ran on apple.

The next two were Borland's QuatroPro and Lotus 123. The eventual winner on the pc was lotus.

Some say it was the killer app which launched the pc. Borland tried to invent an interface and task switcher which was what Microsoft was basically, but it was clumsey.

Lotus just decided to hook to Microsofts "stuff". I say stuff because windows was not invented yet. It was windows that became the front end to DOS and everybodys task switcher.

Meanwhile, Apple was getting left in the dust, so Lotus came up with "JAZZ" in about 1984 which was the major spread sheet for apple at the time.

"Wingz" place in this history is so friggin' miniucule as to be of absolutley no importance. Wingz was 10 YEARS!!!!! after Visicalc.

Lotus 123 was so popular, Borland which was going in the tank, anyway, tried to use 123's command lines, but Lotus prevented them.

MS if any thing copied 123 and used the windows commands. 123 had established, unfortunately, that windows had the right to prevent 123 from copying the windows commands for 123.

That program was called EXCELL, and it was bye bye borland, because their DBase could not compete in price with Access which was MS clone and Lotus got bought by IBM for 3 Bill so IBM could use notes; IBM did not much care about 123.

You have now finally earned the Academy's "Iggy".
