I'm no accountant, but it seems improper to use only retained earnings in calculating the "objective" value of an enterprise, whether it is called "book value", or whatever.

It seems that the calculation that would yield a value which doesn't take into account the potential for future revenue would be liquidation value, i.e, what the market would pay for Q's assets, from which its debts would be deducted, divided by the number of shares outstanding.

I should think that putting the patents up for auction would yield a significantly higher number than the 60 cents used to calculate "book value".
