DOS could be a measure of the ability of customers to pay, when they increase, it means, typically, that the company makes concessions on terms to get customers t commit. Sometimes, it simply means lousy cash management. These numbers are segments specific, so they are important only when trends are developing. One measure of the big coming failure of SNDK in 2000 was a sudden increase in their DOS, it was not the only one, of course. One should not put too much weight on just that number. Increase of DOS is one of the first signs of "channel stuffing".
