Yes, but it will not be the first time. When my son entered school, they thought he was mildly retarded. I told them they were mistaken. I was right, although it took a few years, and retesting, to prove it. There was enormous pressure on me to accept his limitations, instead of expecting him to do well in school. When he was in third grade, his regular classroom teacher, special ed teacher, and a counselor more or less "jumped me". Once, when he got a D, he had said "Daddy won't like this", not in terror, but with seriousness, and, in other ways, indicated that I expected him to learn. They wanted me to drop expectations and accept that he would be a D student. They were so lackadaisacal that if I had not drilled him at home, and made sure that he covered material adequately, he would have become permanently behind. As the years went on, he kept getting "upgraded", and by the end of 6th grade, he was out of special ed, and was acknowledged to have an above average IQ. He has been off and on the honor roll since then, and will graduate from a college prep curriculum with about a 3.0 GPA, depending upon this quarter. So you see, this is NOTHING, swimming upstreamwise; I am not exactly one to take the word of "experts" when my observations cause me to doubt them, much less the SI opinion brigades; and the fact of my sons graduation means infinitely more to me than anything going on on this thread..........
