>> I don't want to appease anyone. We should lower trade barriers because it is in our own interest to do so. <<

the british empire tried unilateral free trade beginning in the last half of the 19th century. it proved to be a disaster. and britain didn't join any global bureaucracy you claim to be against. they unilaterally practiced free trade without joining any world trade organization.

>> What evidence do you base this claim on? What world governments have existed because of free trade? <<

you mean to tell me that you don't see the push toward world government?

>> If you consider the WTO to be a world government I would say that it really isn't <<

i am not suggesting the wto itself is world government, but it could certainly be called an arm of world government. you have the UN, IMF, World Bank, ICC, WTO, etc. which could all replace our branches of government.

>> and in any case you can lower trade barriers without anything like the WTO <<

so you are against our membership in the wto? you're my second convert in as many days.

>> You just pass a law that reduces or eliminates the tariffs or quotas, and you have just reduced trade barriers. No international bureaucracy is needed in order to do that. <<

then you disagree with the globalist duopoly party in washington who voted for our membership in wto? you disagree with the neo-conservatives such as kristol, buckley, kissinger, krauthammer, limbaugh, etc?
