What you can do is encourage all parties to accept the proposal based on your original suggestion.

I would also be perfectly prepared to endorse, unequivocally, your previous statement, since it is completely in line with my present feelings.

Addendum to my previous post.

I recognize that it will require a number of people, including myself, to bite bullets. But that's how life is. There are no winners in situations like this, only survivors.

I also recognize that there will be some hostility to my future posting, and probably some people who refuse to post to me for some time. That is natural, and you note that I'm not asking for any exceptions to that. I am prepared to accept the responsibility to rebuild my reputation here to the extent that will be possible, and to accept that for some people it may be impossible. That's also how life is. But I note thate even E has acknowledged that I have in the past been an enjoyable and responsible poster, so there is certainly a basis for believing that I am capable of returning to that status.

And both Christians who believe in forgiveness and liberals who believe in rehabilitation and reconciliation should recognize that my proposal fits with their professed principles. It is only the RWEs who believe in the death penalty.

As I read the news this morning, I wondered how many people here are in favor of normalizing relations with Cuba.

Even though we may not approve of the way Castro is running the country, those supporting normalization argue that it is better to have normal relations so that we can have some influence to help address abuses there, rather than keeping him an outcast who feels forced to express his hostility in other ways.

Of course, it's always easier to apply our principles to problems far away than those in our own backyards, isn't it?
