Federal debt is not about paying it off. I doubt if you'll ever understand this, any more than the suffering Europeans of the 14th Century understood the preventable causes of the Black Death. It is the fate of contemporary Americans to be led by their ignorance into idiotic economic policy.

Federal debt is about its proportion to the GDP. Ours has been falling far to much. The people require not just a tax cut, but a series of them until the deflationary situation is stabilized. In other words we are not only being robbed by Daschlegephardt, but they are being allowed to seize far too much loot.

We are very far from comprehension on this, but since 75% of the people trust the Bush team, we are close to improving the conditions that brought about the Clinton recession...
