Hello, long-gone,
I saw this on the news...the truck has been found. Idiots were just stealing a brand new shiny truck.
Thank God! My worry remains all those thousands of shipping containers brought into the nation's ports
every day. Only 2-3% of them ever get inspected. The nukes may already be here. Not if, sadly, but when
The nation is in denial. Just look at the DOW for confirmation. And our war on terrorism is at a virtual standstill
as we once again self-flagelate and verbally masturbate about who knew what when. Sad but true. I am afraid the worst is yet to come. But then that is just my view.
Jim

Cyanide is used in the silver and gold industry in Mexico. It is a very common chemical in the metal plating industry where it is used more than in gold mining volumetrically. The thieves may have been industrially oriented and interested in dealing with the Midnite Mine Supply Company who has been known to buy mine supplies occasionally. Cyanide will dissipate in 24 hours when put in an open pond exposed to ultraviolet light. The cyanide in the drums was probably in the form of dry pellets of Sodium Cyanide.

The 50% Lethal Dose (lethal to 50% of subjects) of cyanide dissolved in water is 6.440 milligrams NaCN per kilogram solution. A resevoir 200 yards across and 20 feet deep would require 1406 kilograms of NaCn to reach that level. Chlorine or household bleach, or ferrous sulphate neutralizes cyanide in water and are common industrial techniques to destroy it in waste liquors.

Cyanide antidote is inhalation with amyl nitrate and plentiful oxygen, injection of 3% sodium nitrite, injection of 25% sodium thiosulphate, and injection of hydoxycobalamin. In many cases for some reason, only oxygen is administered if the patient is conscious. Authorities are divided on how to treat cyanide poisoning. It is a fairly common side effect of smoke inhalation in fire fighting.
