"I think a normal Office user could become comfortable with the switch in a few hours, and never look back"

I agree. But it is not the normal user who makes the buying decisions. It is someone with an understanding of what it takes to rollout and maintain and support a product to thousands of users in tens or hundreds of locations. The cost of such makes the purchase price of MS Office irrelevant. StarOffice does not have the capability, or anything approaching it, to satisfy software distribution personnel.

It could do well for the home user and small business though, which would increase acceptance and give StarOffice a footing from which to make a better attack on the corporate market. I don't know how many of that type of customer actually buy Office (as opposed to stealing it or using a company provided copy). Do you have any idea what percentage of MS Office revenues comes from private individuals?

After years of reading Mr. Mossberg's columns, I'm convinced that he's on a Microsoft retainer. He did APPLE the same way, old honest Moss, the snake-oil salesman.
