Thanks, Saturn, you're right that I think MS is excellent at developing apps.

I watched MS from the late 70s...I used to go to the Homebrew Computer Club meetings during the period around 1977-78 when MS Basic was first appearing. Then, in Oregon, as you may know, I followed the CPM card work that MS was doing for Apple II machines. And so on.

It seems to be a popular notion today that MS succeeded only because it was a monopoly. The Droids view Intel's success in the same way.

But these views ignore why these companies were successful in the first place.

(And why Apple was successful...this thread is not about Apple, but I believe the lessons of the Mac are crucial.)
