I initially didn't want to listen to Slow Train Coming because of the media reports of it being a Christian album (at a time in my life where my anti-religious feeling had reached a high point). My college roommate, who was Jewish and didn't care one way or the other about the Christian themes in the album, told me it was a great album with great lyrics and worth listening to anyway, and for awhile the sounds filled the dorm room. Back then we really were less than half the age we are now. <g>
