I gather people have been using "Fair Value" to mean two different things. Thanks for clearing that up. I always get nervous when someone says the market "will" do something, especially when the only thing that has changed is an accounting standard. Still, it seems likely that at least some investors will buy the "new math" on S&P earnings. Here is an article that discusses a limitation of the Fed model which seems to suggest that it is over-optimistic under current economic conditions. kiplinger.com
