I think that you and I agree on most points. I too think that it is too early to give BEA the crown. I do, however, think that IBM will not be crowned.

Yes, IBM makes their software available on other platforms. They do not however market a platform independant solution. If you are a Lotus customer and have some Sun boxes IBM will support you. If they did not they would lose many customers. IBM is not out there building a big Lotus-on-Sun channel with great marketing and promotions behind it. IBM wants to get the highest percentage of every deal.

There will be no large increase in the distance between IBM and BEA until their is a tornado in this market. My contention remains that IBM will not be able to grab share fast enough in the tornado. This leaves BEA as the sole choice. Of course, between now and the tornado this could change.
