Yes, Germany was in the throes of hyperinflation, had many international debts, no savings, and was devastated by the depression. Germany was loathe to admit guilt for instigating World War II, and considered the Versailles Treaty unfairly punitive. In addition, there was a widespread fear of the Communists. Hitler was helped along by the overwhelming sense of crisis and resentment. Even so, in the last free election, the Nazis only picked up 32% of the vote. That, unfortunately, made them the largest party. Equally unfortunately, the leaders of the mainstream conservative parties thought they could control him, and therefore supported his demands to be made chancellor........
