Mr. John MacDonald reports
IVANHOE HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING AND PROVIDES OPERATIONAL UPDATE
At the Ivanhoe annual meeting held earlier today in Vancouver, B.C., shareholders appointed Deloitte & Touche LLP as auditors of the company and elected the recommended slate of directors to the board. During the course of the meeting, chairman of the board, David Martin, provided a brief update on the company's three key areas of operations: gas-to-liquids projects, exploration drilling in the United States, and oil and gas developments in China.
"We are very encouraged by the momentum we have gained recently behind each of our key projects and we are pressing forward toward definitive results," said Mr. Martin.
Relating to the proposed gas-to-liquids project in Qatar, the Ivanhoe negotiating team, including Leon Daniel, president and chief executive officer, has returned to Qatar and is currently involved in negotiations to conclude a definitive agreement. No specific timetable has been established at this point.
Meanwhile, at the company's deep-gas prospect in California, the well is drilling in the highly prospective Temblor formation above the first potential gas-bearing zone. The Temblor may contain several separate natural gas intervals and drilling will continue through the entire formation to evaluate these potential intervals to an estimated depth of 20,000 vertical feet.
At the Lone Star prospect in East Texas, an exploratory well was drilled to a total depth of 11,800 feet and encountered indications of natural gas in several intervals, including the primary Bossier sand objective. Casing has been set in preparation for completion and testing, which will commence after the well has been connected to a nearby pipeline.
Finally, representatives from Ivanhoe's 100-per-cent-owned subsidiary, Sunwing Energy, are in China to finalize a definitive agreement covering approximately 1.9 million acres in the western portion of the Sichuan basin, China's largest gas producing region.
WARNING: The company relies upon litigation protection for "forward-looking" statements.
